Pouring a splash of ruby coloured Jost 4 Skins into a glass will tempt you to stop and contemplate the nose that strikes a delicate balance between red and dark fruits. This will certainly be followed by a curiosity for the taste, which evokes a vast array of flavours that include blackberry, tart raspberry, and dark chocolate. As you enjoy the burst of fruit and earthy notes, you may wonder how a wine that seems so cheeky can taste so complex?  Allow me to explain!

Although Jost 4 Skins is well-known for its lighthearted name, there is a lot of serious thought and hard work that goes into the making of the wine and the name alludes to this. A blend of 4 of the major local red varietals: Castel, Marechal Foch, Lucie Kuhlmann, and Leon Millot, each carefully selected grape adds its own personality and identity to the final wine. All 4 varietals are fermented together, skins and all, resulting in an extraordinary diversity of fruit and savoury flavours ... voila—4 Skins!

Now that you understand the story of the wine's name, let’s talk about what to do with it (aside from the obvious pleasure of drinking it!). When pairing this wine seek out a dish with good fat or salt content such as gourmet meats on the BBQ or pasta's with protein. To sample an ideal pairing visit Rudder's Brew Pub in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and try Jost 4 Skins with their Beef & Scallop Linguine. Along with the protein combination of beef and scallops, it features smoked tomatoes, fresh spinach, Gouda cheese and a delicate cream sauce that all dance in harmony with the fruit and earthy aspects of the wine.

With summer in full swing and the Pride Parade just around the corner it is the right time to celebrate diversity while coming together as a community. Jost 4 Skins is truly an example of bringing unique character together to create a more powerful whole.  Now there is something to toast … Cheers!
