Nova Scotia’s 122nd birthday is right around the corner and the festivities will be in full swing all weekend long. Loads of events are planned including family activities, live music, road races, busker performances, a comedy night and one of the oldest parades in Atlantic Canada. Capped off by some spectacular fireworks, the energy in the city is at its peak and in the mix of it all, great food and beverages are on many people’s radar during this long weekend.

To compliment your celebrations select wines that are crowd pleasers, convenient to share, and offer a significant QPR (quality to price ratio). For wines with all three of these traits choose Grand Banker.

Grand Banker Wine Cellars seeks out quality grapes and best-loved global varietals from some of the best wine growing regions of Canada and the world and brings them to you to enjoy without the need for a plane ticket! If that news isn’t exciting enough, perhaps the fact they also come in 1.5L bottles, making them well suited to share with family and friends, will tempt you even more.

Grand Banker Pinot Grigio is a fantastic representation of the classic Italian varietal making it an ideal summertime wine. I was intrigued by the rich golden color, giving me hope that this wine would be more than just simply white wine. The first sip met my expectations with a mirage of peach and apricot, backed by a touch of creamy vanilla. The mild acidity leaves the wine fresh and clean, making it a great option for sipping alone or with light fare.

The second white on the docket is Grand Banker Sauvignon Blanc. An iconic varietal from the coastal regions of South Africa’s Cape, this option is perfect for those that want a little zip in their whites. A beautiful lemon color, there is a true balance between the citrus notes and the pear flavours that will leave you with no choice but to smile.

For those of you red wine fans, there is an option just as exciting for you. The Grand Banker Shiraz/Cabernet is a wine that has summer written all over it (well, in it!). Blackberry and plum jam leap from the glass and those flavours translate on the palate along with hints of cinnamon and gentle white pepper. This is not a heavy wine, but is substantial enough to pair well with most meats hot off the BBQ.

Tasty, convenient and great QPR—after a few sips of any of these wines you’ll see for yourself how each benefit is successfully checked off your list. Whatever your plans may be for the upcoming holiday weekend, it’s time to celebrate all the great things about being a Nova Scotian and enjoy good wine and food with those you love… Cheers!
