Four wines received the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wines at a ceremony hosted by Their Honours at Government House, Thursday, July 20th, 2017.

The award, established by former Lieutenant Governor The Honourable J.J. Grant, recognizes the exceptional quality of locally sourced and produced wines, and honours the dedication and craft of those in Nova Scotia's wine industry.

Through blind tastings an independent panel of eleven experts chose the following wines (listed in alphabetical order) as the best among the wines submitted:

  • Mercator Vineyards - Mercator Sauvage Sur Lie, 2015
  • Domaine de Grand Pré – Muscat Icewine, 2016
  • Domaine de Grand Pré - Riesling, 2016
  • Luckett Vineyards – Black Cab

"I am delighted that this award recognizes the wonderful wines that are being produced in our province," said His Honour during the ceremony. "The many quality submissions from wineries is a testament to how far this industry has advanced in a relatively short time and I offer my sincere thanks to the wineries who submitted their wines for judging and I extend my congratulations to the award-winning wineries."

Winery Association of Nova Scotia and Taste of Nova Scotia members were invited to submit up to three commercially available grape wines with 100 per cent Nova Scotia content.

The award ceremony included the presentation of a certificate and the Wine Award Gold Medal to each winning winery.
