Irish Soda Bread

This easy to make, hearty bread is a great addition to any brunch. Serve simply with cheeses, jams, jellies and preserves.



• 4 3/4 cups Flour
• 1/2 tsp Salt
• 1 tsp Baking Soda
• 1 Egg
• 1 1/2 cups Buttermilk
• 4 Tbsp melted Butter



Preheat oven to 350° F.

Place all dry ingredients into a bowl and mix together.

Add egg and buttermilk to dry ingredients. Stir just until the dough begins to form.

Add melted butter and knead dough until all ingredients are combined. Do not over knead.

Form dough into a single ball and place on a baking sheet .

Cut 1" deep slits on the top.

Place in preheated oven and bake 50 to 60 minutes.

Test with a toothpick in the centre of the loaf to assure it is fully cooked. If the toothpick comes out clean it is done.

Let sit 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with your favourites cheeses, jams, marmalades or jellies.
