We are excited to announce that our 2022 Gaspereau Tidal Bay has been awarded a 2023 Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wine at a ceremony at Government House in Halifax on July 19th.
We are incredibly proud of our Head Winemaker, Gina Haverstock and her winemaking team. This is the second Lieutenant Governor's Award for Gaspereau Tidal Bay—our 2020 vintage was also recognized in 2021. Our winery is very honoured to receive such a prestigious accolade and we would like to congratulate our fellow Lieutenant Governor's Award winners Blomidon Estate Winery, Luckett Vineyards and Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards.
The award, established by former Lieutenant-Governor J.J. Grant in 2014, recognizes the exceptional quality of locally sourced and produced wines, and honours the dedication and craft of those in Nova Scotia's wine industry.
“The reputation of Nova Scotian wines is due to the work of talented individuals who are dedicated to the growth of our wine industry,” said Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc. “Their passion is reflected in the quality of their wines, and I am proud to recognize the significant and ongoing contributions of winemakers represented during this award season.”
Through blind tastings an independent panel of experts chose the following wines as the best among the wines submitted:
  • 2022 Tidal Bay, Gaspereau Vineyards, Gaspereau
  • 2020 Luckett Barrel Fermented Chardonnay, Luckett Vineyards, Wolfville
  • 2016 Brut Réserve, Blomidon Estate Winery, Canning
  • 2016 Blanc de Noirs, Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards, Wolfville
In total, there were 29 wines submitted by 10 wineries in this year’s competition.
The award is administered by Taste of Nova Scotia and Wine Growers Nova Scotia in partnership with the Office of the Lieutenant-Governor.
The award ceremony included the presentation of a certificate and gold medal to each winning winery.
