Jost creates wines for all occasions and every palate—from the connoisseur to the newest wine taster. We take pride in showing the world that Nova Scotia adds a fresh new dimension to the world of wine. We love our place in the world and find joy in crafting our products—you will enjoy them too.
The longest operating winery in Nova Scotia and a leader in regional viniculture innovation, Jost Vineyards descends from 400 years of winemaking tradition.
The Jost family planted our first vines in 1978 on the Malagash Peninsula, jutting into the warm Northumberland Strait. Warmed by the slope of the land, and sharing the same latitude as the renowned grape-growing regions of France, Germany and Italy, the vineyard flourished and the winery was officially licensed in 1983. The winery store was opened in 1986 and quickly became a hub for community events and activities.
In 2012, Carl and Donna Sparkes became the proud new owners of Jost Vineyards.
It is a new beginning for the winery, and with this comes changes in winemaking, viticulture and staff. There is a commitment to more education, scientific analysis of soil types, and new plantings.
The now more than 100 acres including buildings and headlands. The winery, which was fully redesigned and renovated in 2013, is rustic, yet elegant. A beautiful circular tasting bar, meant to resemble a large oak barrique, is the centre piece of our cathedral-ceilinged lounge.
Floor to ceiling windows on the front side of the tasting area give an impressive view of long, green rows, sloping up sleepy hills. The room has a warm feel with aged wood. The low seating, fireplace and artisan foods make it easy-going and social. The vibe is of simple pleasures without pretension, which is exactly what one can expect of Jost’s wines, from the aromatic Selkie frizzante to our citrus and apple driven appellation wine, Tidal Bay.
