We are a premium boutique winery situated in the beautiful Gaspereau Valley, mere minutes from downtown Wolfville. The first winery to establish in the valley, Gaspereau Vineyards is situated on the edge of a picturesque, 50 acre vineyard, formerly the site of a dairy farm & apple orchard. The terroir of the valley is expressed to our visitors as they look upon the winery, nestled amoungst the rolling countryside, as the warm sunshine combines with a refreshing breeze. During the summer months, the valley is often ten degrees celsius warmer than the Atlantic coast of the province. The first vines were planted in 1997. Our boutique operates in the replica of a historic barn on the premises and has been warmly welcoming the public since 2004.
We specialize in quality driven, expressive, fruit-forward, terroir driven whites, and earthy, robust red wines that are ideally suited to the local cuisine. European-trained, Nova Scotian born winemaker, Gina Haverstock, produces wines that are true to the variety and uniquely Nova Scotian. In the vineyard, cellar and boutique, the Gaspereau team is a small but passionate crew dedicated to providing guests with a complete and personal Nova Scotian wine experience .
The Gaspereau, a small river valley in the cradle of the larger Annapolis Valley, is the core of the Nova Scotia wine industry, and home to Gaspereau Vineyard. The Annapolis Valley, which runs parallel to the Bay of Fundy coastline is protected by two mountain ranges, to the North and South, and Gaspereau Vineyards finds itself on the south facing slope of that South mountain, protected from the coolness and wind.
This lively agricultural area is sheltered by the valley from cool fogs that roll in off the Bay of Fundy’s deep, shellfish-rich, waters. Fruit orchards, corn fields, cheese makers, produce stands and wineries are over the slope of each rolling hill.
The winemaker at Gaspereau Vineyards, Nova Scotia born Gina Haverstock, is a true wine artisan and prides herself in minimal intervention. She has been creating award winning wines since 2007.
The vast majority of grapes on our site are hand-harvested for the production of traditional-method sparkling wines, whites, reds and the Rieslings for which we are best known. An additional 14 acres of vines were planted on site in the spring of 2014, bringing the total to 50 acres for the vineyard. The site is performing extremely well and the extra plantings will increase the output to meet higher demands for our premium wines.
With minimal intervention winemaking we create wines that reflect the quality of the land, the long summer days and the longest growing season in the province. Our catalogue of artfully made wines, including a handful of single vineyard selections, are appreciated among the most discerning of palates, because quality always trumps quantity.
